Woodlynne Borough Council Meeting 11/12/2024

Below is a recording of the Woodlynne Borough Council Meeting held on 11/12/24. The workshop was scheduled for 7:30 PM, with the meeting itself to follow at 8 PM. The meeting didn’t start until after 8:30, seemingly due to a lack of preparedness on the part of the clerk.
Key Points:

  • There will be a Special Meeting held next Monday (11/18/24) at 7PM at the Borough Hall. This meeting is regarding the EPA Community Change grant that we mentioned a couple of weeks ago. Due to the outcome of the election, the deadline for application submission was moved up to 11/21. Mayor Chukwueke brought this information to Council, but it was determined that they didn’t have sufficient time prior to voting on anything. The vote will take place on Monday.
  • The annual Tree-Lighting Ceremony will be held on 12/6/24 at 7PM. Pastor Blackwell has invited the town for light refreshments afterward.
  • Leaf collection is on Thursdays and Fridays. Leaves will not be collected if they are in plastic bags. They can either be raked loose to the curb, or placed in a barrel or paper bag to prevent the wind from scattering them.
  • The engineer gave some brief updates regarding ongoing projects and the upcoming DCA Recreation grant proposal. Woodlynne was awarded $72,000 this year for the concession stand, but as that isn’t enough, the engineer is looking into whether or not we could apply for a “round two” in 2025.
  • With Camden County officially on the job, we’ve been told to expect more community outreach, including officers knocking on doors.
  • The sound system is still broken, and they’re attempting to work around this with a large party speaker that needed to be restarted approximately every 15 minutes.

It should also be noted that while Mayor Chukwueke appears to be trying by updating the “Statement for the Minutes”, they still failed compliance for this meeting because they still failed to notice properly. Further, while there is no set time limit for them to start a meeting after its noticed starting time, the OPMA does mandate that public meetings must be conducted with reasonable promptness (starting close to the scheduled starting time) and not be unduly delayed (such as by an unprepared clerk scrambling to assemble packets of information for Mayor and Council).
